Iran’s science minister confers with EU’s sciences commissioner

London, Jan 17, IRNA - Iran’s Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mansour Gholami sat down for talks with EU’s Sciences, Technology and Innovation Commissioner Carlos Moedas late on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Gholami commented on Iran’s scientific status in the world including its first rank in the region in producing scientific contents and 16th in the world and stressed the need for enhancing cooperation in the field of science and technology.

“Iran is aware of EU’s different research and educational programs and it is willing to take part in these programs,” he said.

Moedas, for his part, said that EU is determined to promote cooperation in the field of science and technology.

He also called on Iran to participate in EU next research program slated to be held from 2021 to 2027, saying that the bloc’s approach in the field of science and technology is based on “EU openness to all” rather than “Europe first”.

Gholami arrived in Brussels late on Tuesday at the head of an academic delegation to attend the third meeting of Iran-Europe scientific and technological cooperation working group.
