Zarif: Promoting ties with Africa Iran’s priority

Tehran, May 24, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sierra Leone Mohamed Gibril Sesay here on Wednesday discussed ways for promoting cooperation in all fields.

During the meeting, Zarif said that Africa is of paramount significance for Iran in the political, economic and cultural terms.

He added that boosting ties with Africa has a priority for Iran since the victory of the Islamic Revolution 1979.

Referring to the economic capacities of the two countries, Zarif said, “During President Rouhani’s new tenure, we can further enhance bilateral economic relations using practical mechanisms.”

He also called for utilizing capacities of the two countries’ private sectors and chambers of commerce in bolstering economic relations.

Pointing to acts of terror in certain European, African states, Zarif voiced Tehran’s readiness for cooperation with the West African state in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

Meanwhile, the minister of Sierra Leone underlined significance of his country’s relations with Iran, saying that bolstering ties in all fields is on the agenda of his country’s government.

Sesay further noted that the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and his country is keen on taking advantage of Iran’s economic capacities.

Highlighting Iran’s determining role in establishing stability and security in the region as well as fighting terrorism, he said that his country is ready for collaboration with Iran in combating terrorism.
