Iran, Iraq signify shared cultural values in cinema industry

Tehran, April 27, IRNA – Iraqi representative to Iran's Fajr film festival says his presence at the event can be a first step toward linking cinemas of Iran and Iraq to initiate cooperation in the cultural field in light of share various grounds to build on.

Head of the public relations department of Iraqi Artists Syndicate says that he is pursuing the goal of disseminating the story of Iraqi young filmmakers to the world, so he sees the 37th Fajr International Film Festival's (FIFF) market a good opportunity for the purpose.

The syndicate founded in 1969 is an independent body the officials of which are selected by all members' votes, the Iraqi representative says.

Market is one of the side sections in the 37th Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF) with various filmmakers attending to present their products and potentials to other companies attending the event.

Musammam, talking with IRNA on the sidelines of the FIFF, expresses hope that the presence of the syndicate in Iran would lead to much achievements, and says that he plans to invite some Iraqi filmmakers to the next edition of the festival in 2020 so that Iraqi films and filmmakers are introduced to their Iranian respective partners and other filmmakers who attend the event from around the world.

He says that the syndicate is also willing to promote cultural cooperation between Iran and Iraq through introducing the cinema of Iran to Iraqi society of film lovers and filmmakers.

'It would also contribute to the promotion of the culture of cinema-going among Iraqi people,' he says.

'Iran and Iraq share lots of cultural, religious and geographical values to build upon when they are doing joint projects,' Musammam says adding that during his current visit to Iran he would prepare the ground for more cooperation.

Mohammad: The Messenger of God (pbuh), a film directed by the Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi, was screened in various Iraqi cities, including Baghdad, Basra, and Erbil, and was well-received by the Iraqi communities, he says.

The 37th edition of FIFF, comprising of various sections, was held in Tehran on April 18-26.
