Syria proud of strong ties with Iran

Baghdad, April 20, IRNA – Iran is a honorable nation and Syria is proud of strong relations with Iran, said Syrian head of the People's Council, Hammouda Sabbagh, in Baghdad.

'Damascus and Tehran were partners in fighting terrorism, and we hope that Iran will participate in reconstruction of Syria as well,' said Sabbagh on Friday night in a meeting with Allaeddin Broujerdi, an Iranian parliamentarian.

Thanking Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and the people of Iran, he said, 'No country helped us like Iran.'

Saying that the US sanctions on Iran is invalid, he added, 'Syria stresses strong ties with Iran.'

He said that it looks history is repeating itself. 'Once the United Kingdom gifted Palestine to the Zionists and now the US is doing the same thing with Golan Heights.'

He also said that the world should know that one day Palestine will return to Islam and also Golan Heights to Syria.

Boroujerdi is to participate in interparliamentarian meeting of Iraq's neighbor, on behalf of Iran's Majlis (parliament) speaker, Ali Larijani.

He condemned US President Donald Trump's attempts to recognize annexation of Golan Heights to the occupying entity of Israel.

They also discussed the most recent developments in mutual ties and regional issues.

The interparliamentarian meeting of Iraq's neighbors is underway in Baghdad with participation of Iran, Kuwait, Jordan, Syria and Turkey.
