Envoy: US sanction not to limit Iran, Switzerland banking ties

Tehran, April 18, IRNA – Switzerland's ambassador to Tehran Marcos Lightner in meeting with the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Abdul-Nasser Hemmati on Thursday said that the US sanctions could never cause limitations in banking relations between the two countries.

The Swiss official underlined his country's intention to strengthen banking and financial relations with Iran and added that Switzerland had always have suitable banking ties with Iran so the US sanctions should not limit the relations.

Swiss government is carrying out necessary measures to strengthen trade and banking relations as well as reopening banking channel between Iran and Switzerland , he said, adding that banking exchanges will increase soon between the two states.

The CBI governor too underscored the need for development of financial and trade relations in direction of interests of both sides and added that Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes such efforts.

Hemmati said that acceleration in reopening banking channel between the two sides would be a positive indication of governments' measures in direction of coordinating international financial and trade policies upon reciprocal interests and not based on foreign pressures.

The governor pointed out that Iran despite US pressures and upon its own national interests is following up development of its trade and banking relations with other states.
