Iran's Zarif to discuss recent developments in Syria

Damascus, April 16, IRNA – Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Damascus for talks with Syrian officials on the ways of broadening bilateral relations as well as regional and global developments.

He was officially received by Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad, Iran's Ambassador to the country Javad Torkabadi and other Syrian-based Iranian officials at the airport.

A number of senior officials at Iran's Foreign Ministry are accompanying Zarif in his one-day visit to Syria.

He is scheduled to meet and talk with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the country's Prime Minister Imad Khamis and Foreign Minister Valid al-Moalem.

The visit is being paid upon an official invitation by President Assad which was offered during his trip to Tehran in February.

The Iranian foreign minister last visited Syria in October 2018. The trip will be followed by another one-day visit to Turkey.
