Iran regrets Notre Dame Cathedral destruction

Tehran, April 16, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed regret on Tuesday over destruction of part of historical Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, after massive fire.

“Saddened that Notre Dame—that iconic monument dedicated to the worship of our one God & that brought all of us closer through Hugo's literary masterpiece—is partially destroyed after standing through wars & revolution for 800 years. Our thoughts are w/ the French & all Catholics,” Zarif said in his twitter post.

Fire gutted the roof of Notre Dame Cathedral built in 12th century and led to collapse of one of its tower.

French officials have said they could prevent full destruction of the historical building.

Notre Dame Cathedral became famous and prominent after Victor Hugo's novel 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame.'
