No justification for US move against IRGC: Pak analyst

Islamabad, April 13, IRNA -- A senior Pakistani defense analyst said the US move to label the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization is unjustified and has no reason.

In an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Lieutenant General (Retd) Amjad Shoaib said the US by taking such actions is trying to exert pressure on Iran.

US President Donald Trump on Monday officially designated the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps a terrorist group.

The IRGC is a major part of Iran's official Armed Forces, and the move sparked fierce reactions by Iranian officials.

Amjad Shoaib said the US act is absolutely unjustified, has no grounds, no reasoning. He added that it is very unfortunate that without any evidence against the IRGC they have taken this decision.

'This is all high headedness of a country and the world is quite on that,' said the analyst.

The expert suggested Iran to challenge this US move either in international court of justice or in the United Nations.

'This move is totally unjustified, there is no reason, there are no allegations against the IRGC or anybody in Iran,' said the former three star general of Pakistani army.

He said: 'I think the IRGC has an excellent conduct; Americans have been leveling baseless allegations about IRGC's role in Middle East.

'We have not seen any intervention by the IRGC in Iraq or Syria, I think the US has taken the decision to pressurize Iran,' Amjad Shoaib viewed.

He said there is lot of hypocrisy in the international community and they have their own vested interests.

Expressing his views, the analyst said Iran should consult India, Russia, China and Pakistan and jointly take some action against the American forces.

“There could be two types of actions; either Iran blacklists some of the American entities or some of the regional countries like Pakistan, China, India, Russia join hands with Iran and they declare that they do not agree with what Americans have done with IRGC,” he noted.

He said that regional countries should support Iran to dilute the American action.
