Assyrian leader: Iran our safe house

Erbil, April 5, IRNA – Mar Gewargis III, Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East at a meeting with the Islamic Republic of Iran Consul General in Erbil, Iraq, Morteza Ebadi underlined that Iran is the safe home of the Assyrian people.

Ebadi met and conferred Thursday with Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East.

During the meeting, the Iranian Consul General presented a report on the latest state of floods in the country and outlined the activities of the Iranian government and nation in helping the affected people.

He referred to the US behavior in impeding the aids by Iranians living abroad from reaching home as an act which contradicts the international law and is against religion, morality and humanity.

Mar Gewargis III, Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East for his part also expressed his satisfaction with the visit, calling Iran a safe haven for the Assyrians, who live in peace and tranquility with the Muslim people and share their sadness and happiness.

The Assyrian leader also expressed his delight that the Assyrian churches in some non-Assyrian neighborhoods in the city of Urmieh in northwest of Iran are guarded and secured by the Muslim compatriots, and prayed for the growing success of the Iranian government and nation.

The Iranian Consul General visited the Patriarch to pay tribute to the old and long-standing history of relations and to renew the bond of friendship between the two sides.
