Senior Iraqi cleric’s representative calls for further ties with Tehran

Qom, March 14, IRNA – Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani’s representative in Iran stressed here on Thursday the importance of implementation of Tehran-Baghdad agreements reached after the recent visit by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to the neighboring country.

Hojjatoleslam Javad Shahrestani made the remarks in a meeting held in Qom, west of the Iranian capital, with Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Reza Rahmani.

March 11 has been the start of the three-day visit of President Rouhani and his high-ranking delegation to Iraq.

Shahrestani, in the meeting, described Iran and Iraq as friends and brothers.

He added mutual agreements should be implemented as soon as possible.

Elsewhere in his speech, Shahrestani stressed the need to preserve unity and avoid discord.

During the presence of Iranian president in Iraq, the two reached agreement on cooperation in various issues, including industry, visa and railway.
