Berlin backs EU attempts to keep JCPOA

Tehran, Feb 16, IRNA – German Foreign Minister called for a return to multilateral solutions, saying Germany supports attempts made by Europe to preserve Iran nuclear deal.

“Without it [Iran nuclear deal], one thing is clear, the region would be no safer but instead a step closer to an open confrontation, with all of the implications that would have on Europe’s own security,” US media Associated Press quoted Heiko Maas as addressing the Munich Security Conference.

He criticized US President Donald Trump's approach against Iran saying “for me, it’s a classic case of lose-lose.'

He also slammed US for its unilateral withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying Germany together with France and the UK will preserve the deal.

The 55th Munich Security Conference attended by 600 international decision makers in various fields, including politics, trade and civil society, is underway in Munich, Germany, from February 15-17 to deal with current crises and future challenges.

Munich Security Conference is held annually in the German city of Munich since 1963 with the aim of providing political, economic, scientific and military officials from around the world with an opportunity to explore ways of maintaining peace and establishing security.
