National Students Day marked in Chinese capital

Beijing, Dec 9, IRNA – Iranian National Students Day (Azar 16 or December 7) was celebrated in Chinese capital city of Beijing by Iranian students, scholars and faculty members.

Head of Iranian Students Society in China Mohammad Taleb delivered a speech in the ceremony in honor of the three students of Tehran University who were killed in 1953. The day when they were shot dead by the military forces of Pahlavi regime has been designated as the National Student Day in Iran.

The three students were protesting against the visit of Richard Nixon (the then US vice president) to Tehran and the reestablishment of political relations between Iran and Britain shortly after the US, British engineered coup against the democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadeq in August 1953.

Taleb added that the works of the Iranian students in China show that they are among the best students of this country.

In addition, ten students with outstanding scientific performance or cultural activity were awarded during the ceremony.

The participants also enjoyed the live musical performance and poetry reading.

Chinese universities currently host over 2,000 Iranian students in various fields of studies.
