1.2 ton opium seized in southern Iran

Bushehr, Dec 5, IRNA – More than a ton of opium has been confiscated in a town in southern Iranian Province of Bushehr, a local official said on Wednesday.

Follow-up investigations on an intelligence tip-off had led to uncovering 1.2 ton of opium in Deylam, Brigadier General Valiollah Rezaeinejad told reporters.

In the operation, coast guards arrested a suspect, Rezaeinejad said.

All the coastal area and parts of Bushehr Province are monitored by the coast guards who are equipped with modern vessels, the commander said.

Coast guards in Bushehr have managed to uncover 1,903 kilogram narcotics of various types over the past 9 months, according to the commander.
