Iranian director: Drug sanctions represent America's desperation towards Iranian nation

Beijing, Nov 7, IRNA -- Majid Majidi, well-known Iranian filmmaker, says the US has sanctioned the Iranian nation, targetting medicine and other basic needs of the people, not the government, which testifies Washington is desperate before the nation.

Majidi made the remarks in an address to a Q&A meeting with film students at the Chinese Film Academy in Beijing.

To a question on alleged restrictions for issuance of permission for films in Iran, Majidi emphasized that a lot of news propaganda regarding cultural constraints in Iran is a negative publicity aimed at tarnishing image of the country in the world.

Referring to the fact that any country may, within framework of its own ideals, undertake a mechanism in issuing permission for artistic activities, including films, he emphasized that cultural and artistic activities in Iran are times easier than that in many other countries.

The renowned Iranian director described the propaganda campaign regarding censorship in Iran as 'political and unrealistic' gesture and said the United States has colonized the country for 50 years, and now that their interests are lost, they attribute unrealistic issues to it.
