Southern Gas Corridor exempted from anti-Iran sanctions

Baku, Nov 4, IRNA – The new round of US sanctions against Iran will not apply to Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) project, reported Azeri media on .

“The Southern Gas Corridor has been included in the list of exceptions,” wrote Azertac on Saturday while citing to US Federal Register.

Iran has a 10 percent share in the project, which is intended to deliver gas from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz gas field to Europe via Turkey.

The corridor was also exempted from the previous round of sanctions which were imposed in August.

SGC is one of the priorities of the European Union (EU) and include the second development phase of Shah Deniz gas field, increasing the transfer capabilities of South Caucasus Pipeline, Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline, and Trans Adriatic Pipeline in some European countries.

The imposition of the new round of sanctions has already been started, and have faced the non-compliance of the global community.
