The Indian High Commission in Islamabad in a statement thanked Pakistani authorities for facilitating the repatriation process.
“Indian citizen Reshma’s mortal remains were repatriated to her family in Barmer. A big thank you to authorities in Pakistan and India who made a special exemption to open gates and allowed on foot crossover at Khokhrapar-Munabao railway crossing,” the high commission said.
Reshma, 65, had come to Pakistan on June 30 to visit her sister. She was accompanied by her son and was scheduled to return on July 28. However, she died on July 25 after a brief illness.
Her family then wanted to bury her in her hometown in Rajasthan, but got entangled in formalities.
In a rare episode in the tense Indo-Pak relations, gates of the Khokhrapar-Munabao border were opened to take her body. Reshma’s body was handed over by Pakistan Rangers to India’s Border Security Force.
The border at Khokhrapar-Munabao was opened in 2006 for some Hindu pilgrims who had wanted to visit Mata Temple in Lasbela, Balochistan and since then the border has remained closed with the Thar Express being the sole means of transportation between the two rival countries.

Islamabad, Aug 6, IRNA -- Pakistan and India have opened the border crossing at Khokhrapar-Munabao zero point to repatriate the dead body of an Indian woman who had died during a visit to Pakistan, local media reported.
