Iran's presence in Syria at Damascus' demand: Spox

Tehran, May 21, IRNA – Iran is present in Syria because Damascus wanted it to be there and Tehran's goal is to fight terrorism, said the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

'Should the Syrian want us, we will continue to be there,' said Bahram Qasemi.

On the reports that Russia has wanted Iran to leave Syria which have been denied by Moscow, Qasemi said, 'No one can make Iran do things; Iran has its own independent policies.'

'Those who entered Syria without the permission of the Syrian government are the ones that must leave the country.'
