Lawmaker deplores burning int’l documents, flags in parliament

Tehran, May 13, IRNA – Member of Majlis (Iranian Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission dismissed burning flags and international documents in parliament as a move against the policy of having constructive interactions with the world.

In an era when US all-out confrontation against Iran is on top of international developments, reviewing the history of ties and decisions are more essential than ever, Alireza Rahimi said.

Due to the fact that US withdrawal from Iran Deal has created the opportunity for solidarity and convergence inside the country and has opened a new chapter in diplomacy, insisting on national interests by all political tastes and preserving Iran’s credibility in international arena have become more important.

Members of the Omid reformist faction in Majlis (Parliament) have set up a committee to discuss burning a symbolic copy of the Iran Deal and the US flag on Majlis floor, Omid Faction spokesman Bahram Parsaei told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Sunday.

After US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, also known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on May 8, some MPs fired a symbolic copy of the JCPOA and also the US flag the next day.

US President Donald Trump announced last Tuesday that Washington would pull out of Iran nuclear deal and reinstate nuclear sanctions on Iran.

This is while most world powers, including Russia, China, and the European Union have repeatedly stressed that keeping the deal is in the interest of world peace and security.
