US exit from Iran Deal, a pretext: IRGC cmdr

Tehran, May 9, IRNA – US May 8 decision to leave Iran nuclear deal indicated that the issue of enrichment was a pretext from the beginning, commander of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced here on Wednesday.

The US decision proved that their major question is Iran's defense and missile capabilities and also its influential role in the region, Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said at a national gathering this morning.

US President Donald Trump announced his decision about the Iran Deal on May 8 and withdrew his country unilaterally from the international agreement. Many world powers, including Russia, China, and the European Union are against Trump's decision.

In response to the decision, the IRGC commander said the US is untrustworthy for any talks and interactions.

Once again, it was revealed that the Americans are bully, Major General Jafari added.

He pointed to the Europeans' reaction to Trump's decision, and said they (Europeans) are dependent on America and they cannot decide independently.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, in response to the US decision about the Iran Deal, said on Tuesday that he has ordered the Foreign Ministry to consult with European countries, Russia and China within one to two weeks. 'If Iran's national interests are secured, we will remain in the deal' officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

It is crystal clear that when the Europeans have two choices of Iran and the US, they will choose the latter, the IRGC commander stressed.

Touching upon Iran's defense capabilities, the commander said the Armed Forces from now on should pay more attention to the country's defense power.

Before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran's power was dependent on the US, but after the period, the country's power has been dependent on its workforce and indigenous military equipment, the missile one in particular.
