Talks during the meeting dealt with the bilateral relations and meant to enhance and develop cooperation in different domains in the best interests of the two friendly countries and their peoples.
Pakistan’s position on the situation in Syria is based on the principles as the country has long been against the change of government through a foreign intervention in any country of the world especially Syria.
Along with Russia and Iran, Pakistan has raised its voice for the support for President Bashar al-Assad, and greatly exhorted for peaceful solution of Syrian crises as well as opposing any military actions against Syria.
In spite of Saudi Arabia forming an alliance to coordinate military operations in Syria, Pakistan has adopted the stance against it and stressed its role as strict neutrality.
Earlier Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain had hoped that peace and stability in Syria will be established soon and the people of Syria will have a peaceful and prosperous life.
He directed the ambassador Rashid Kamal to make concerted efforts for enhancing bilateral trade and people to people contacts with Syria.
He emphasized that there is a need to increase cooperation in different fields in order to further deepen the relations with Syria.

Former Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry had once stated that his country is against any attempt to topple the government of Syrian President Bashar al Assad.
'Pakistan is also against foreign military intervention in Syria and fully supports the territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic,” he said.
Pakistan and Syria have maintained cordial economic, social and defense relations and Pakistan was one of the countries that provided tacit military assistance to Syria against the Zionist Regime during the Yom Kippur conflict.
In the 1970s, Syrian President Hafez al-Assad came to Pakistan to participate in the international Organization of Islamic Conference, being the first Syrian President to have visited Pakistan.
In 2010, President Asif Zardari paid a state visit to Syria to meet with President Bashar al-Assad to expedite exchange of delegations in both government and private levels in political and economic sectors, eventually signing a trade treaty in 2010.
Pakistani independent political analyst Dr. Rashid Ahmad Khan talking to IRNA said that from the very first day of the problem in Syria, Pakistan has been supporting the government of the Arab state.
He added that Pakistan wants to have ties with Syria in all fields as they believe that regional conflicts have nothing to do with bilateral ties. The expert went on to say that Pakistan is against all kinds of foreign interference in Syria and any country of the world.
Dr. Rashid said that sending of Ambassador to Syria shows that Pakistan recognizes the government of Bashar al-Assad which is a big development.
He noted that people of Pakistan are very close to the people of Syria and that is the main reason behind the neutrality of Pakistan on Syria.

Islamabad, April 24, IRNA - President Bashar al-Assad has recently received the credentials of newly-appointed Pakistani Ambassador to Syria, Rashid Kamal a development which shows that Pakistan still recognizes the incumbent Syrian government and wants to have good relations with it.
