Bolivia president denounces US attack on Syria as 'outrageous'

Tehran, April 14, IRNA - Bolivian President Evo Morales blasted US President Donald Trump specifically for the US-led attack on Syria overnight Saturday, describing it as 'outrageous'.

'With the strength of dignity, of the people of the world, we condemn the outrageous attack by Trump against Syria,' Morales said in a message released in his twitter page.

'In 2003, Bush invented non-existent weapons of mass destruction to justify the US invasion of Iraq. What he was looking for was seizing oil. Now Trump repeats vile imperialist aggression against our Syrian brothers, also to seize the natural resources of another country,' he noted, quoted by Telesur TV network.

Earlier on Thursday and hours after US president warned of missile attacks, Bolivia had asked for the United Nations Security Council to meet “on the escalation of rhetoric regarding Syria and these threats of unilateral military action.'

“There’s a consistency in these threats, so we are concerned because any unilateral action would be a violation of the principles and purposes of the (UN) charter,” Bolivia’s UN Ambassador Sacha Sergio Llorentty Soliz told reporters.

The US together with its allies, the UK and France targeted the Syrian capital city of Damascus early Saturday.

The US attack on a military base in Homs, western Syria injured 3 civilians, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) earlier reported.
