Sports minister congratulates junior taekwondo team championship

Tehran, April 13, IRNA – Iran’s Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Masoud Soltanifar in a message on Friday congratulated the championship of Iran’s junior taekwondo team in 2018 World Junior Taekwondo Championships which was held in Tunisia from April 4-13.

The message read that on the eve of Eid al-Mab'ath which marks the anniversary of the appointment of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) to his divine mission, the powerful victory of Iran’s junior taekwondo team in the world championships made the Iranian people and sports community happy.

“I congratulate you the decision-makers of sports field, coaches and officials in charge of this sporting event on the valuable success,” he said, hoping that the medal-winning taekwondo fighters would also be able to make the people happier in Asian Games in Indonesia, Youth Olympic Games in Argentina and Tokyo Olympic Games by winning more medals.

Iran’s junior taekwondo team won seven gold and two bronze medals, ranking first in the 12th World Championship in Tunisia.

The event attended by 950 athletes from 118 countries including Iran ended on Friday.

Iranian junior taekwondo fighters Hossein Lotfi, Amir Valipour, Amir Sina Bakhtiari, Hamed Asghari, Mohammad Mehdi Emadi, Ali Eshkevarian and Mohammad Ali Khosravi won gold medals while Erfan Moradi and Nima Mehr Ali grabbed bronze medals in the prestigious event.

South Korea came second with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals, while Turkey stood third with one gold and two silver medals.
