Iran-Turkmenistan electricity swap to rise to 850MW

Tehran, March 28, IRNA – The capacity of energy swaps between Iran and Turkmenistan is scheduled to rise to 850MW, according to Iran's Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian.

Ardakanian, who was among the delegation accompanying President Rouhani during his recent visit to Turkmenistan, said that in his meeting with Turkmen vice-president, the two sides agreed to relaunch the second line of electricity transfer from Turkmenistan to Iran which has stopped working since six months ago.

He said that a delegation from Turkmenistan is expected to visit Iran next week to discuss the issue as well as carrying out the project of a third energy line with the capacity of 500 kilo volt.

The third energy line will allow Turkmenistan to export its energy to third countries through Iranian soil, the minister said.

President Hassan Rouhani arrived in Turkmenistan on Tuesday for a two-day visit which then took him to Azerbaijan.

During Iranian president's stay in Turkmenistan, 13 cooperation documents were signed between the two countries.
