Iran president stresses cordial ties with Turkmenistan

Tehran, March 27, IRNA – Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that friendship, good neighborliness and brotherly relations with Turkmenistan is of special significance for Iran.

President Rouhani, who is in Ashgabat for a two-day visit, made the remarks during a joint meeting of high-ranking Iranian and Turkmen delegations.

Referring to Tehran-Ashqabat cooperation on different parts, particularly energy, transit and transportation, the president said that the beginning of the executive operation of the third line of electricity transfer from Tehran to Turkmenistan, new cooperation on Caspian Sea oil and gas and rendering facilities to boost transportation between the two countries can serve as a new step to help economic relations between Iran and Turkmenistan.

Iranian road constructing companies are ready to carry out projects in Turkmenistan, President Rouhani said, adding that with the removal of some problems about providing spare parts, Iran will soon be exporting buses to Turkmenistan.

The president also underlined the need to promote tourism between the two countries, urging the necessity to establish direct flights between Tehran and Ashqabat.

Turkmenistan's president, for his part, said that Iran and Turkmenistan share common views regarding regional and international issues.

Noting that relations between the two countries in the international organizations such as the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is positive and constructive, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow said that Turkmenistan has always been grateful of Iran's support.

Referring to Caspian Sea as the sea of peace and security, President Berdimuhamedow called for more enhanced cooperation between Iran and Turkmenistan in Caspian Sea and special economic zones.

President Rouhani arrived in Ashgabat on Tuesday morning for a two-day visit which will then take him to Baku.
