Kidnapped foreign citizen in northeast Iran released

Mashad, March 13, IRNA – A foreign national taken hostage in the city of Mashad about a week ago has been freed and the three involved in his kidnapping indentified and arrested, a police commander said here on Tuesday.

Brigadier General Qader Karimi said that the hostage, was kidnapped while driving in the city of Mashad, the Provincial capital of Khorasan Razavi by three gunmen who stopped his car, threatened him with death and pepper-sprayed him.

The kidnappers then contacted one of the hostage's brothers asking for a ransom of 100,000 euro while sending him a video showing the hostage being tortured, the police commander added.

When one of the kidnappers received half of the money based on a plan made by the police, the police forces followed him, indentified their hideaway and arrested them.
