Official urges enhancement of Iran-Indonesia media cooperation

Tehran, Jan 20,IRNA - A senior Iranian official on Saturday called for strengthening of media cooperation between Iran and Indonesia

In a meeting with an Indonesian media delegation, Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance for Media Affairs Mohammad Soltanifar said developing media cooperation with Muslim countries is a priority in Iran's media diplomacy.

Referring to the active presence of Iranian women in the field of journalism, Soltanifar said at present women constitute half of the editorial boards of Iranian mass media and there are 1,200 media managed by women.

Pointing to the 12th government's special approach to media diplomacy, the deputy minister said such an approach is testified by the increasing visits of foreign journalists to the county and a rise in the number of foreign media's representative offices in Iran. He said 155 media from 33 countries have representative offices manned by 300 personnel in Iran.

Soltanifar also referred to the ever increasing penetration of social networks into various countries including Iran, saying that it would be a mistake to take passive or aggressive stands in dealing with such newly-emerged and mobile-based media.

'Augmenting public awareness and insuring production of favorable material in dealing with these social networks is on our agenda,' the deputy minister of culture and Islamic guidance said.

Signing cooperation agreements with Iranian mass media, extending invitation to Iranian journalists to visit Indonesia and holding training workshops and tours were among the topics raised and discussed by the Indonesia delegation and the Iranian official.
