Iran president: JCPOA cut global Gordian knot

Tehran, Jan 14, IRNA – The Islamic Republic of Iran demonstrated that through dialogue it is possible to cut a global Gordian knot, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday, referring the July 2015 Iran nuclear.

'By the nuclear deal, Iran demonstrated to the world that complicated regional or even international issues could be settled at the table of negotiation,' President Rouhani said, addressing the 9th Farabi International Award on the Humanities and Islamic Studies underway in the Iranian capital, referring to the nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers, known also as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

'I am very happy to see that the White House has failed to disrupt international obligations, break loyalty and stand against the resolution of the United Nations Security Council which was the outcome of an agreement among seven countries,' he said.

'Iran untied the Gordian knot [of nuclear talks],' President Rouhani said.

Referring to the attempts by the US administration to decertify the landmark nuclear deal signed between Tehran and P5+1 group of nations, he said that the White House over the recent two weeks have faced a heavy defeat.

They wanted to stand against the global public opinion and violate their international commitments, the Iranian president said.

'It was a victory for humanity, morality and [international] laws,' President Rouhani said.

'I have repeatedly said that the JCPOA was a significant accomplishment for Iran and such an accomplishment will never fade away,' he said.

'This is not anything that could be spoiled,' he added.

The Iranian president went on to stress that Iran has never been after nuclear armaments.

'We proved that Iran was right and our enemies were wrong and all the inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency are evidence to this,' President Rouhani said.
