Minister: Culture heralds confidence building, understanding

Tehran, Jan 13, IRNA – Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyyed Abbas Salehi said on Saturday that cultural relations will herald confidence building and mutual understanding.

Speaking during his opening address to the first Asian Cultural Dialogue Conference in Tehran on Saturday, he said that cultural experiences at international relations indicate that world nations pave the path of developments under a durable and peaceful cultural contact.

'In the absence of culture there will be no development,' Salehi added.

Communication is to form a common understanding on interrelated issues and changing monologue to dialogue, he said.

Promotion of peace and stability in the region and at international level prelude to expansion of cooperation and interaction based on collective contribution, Salehi added.

Referring to cultural diversity in the Asian continent, he said all humanitarian and cultural developments should be taken into account in touching upon sustainable development.

Asian countries should help stabilize peace in the world through setting up cultural, scientific and religious dialogues, Salehi said.

Asian continent as the biggest continent in the world enjoy the highest status among world civilizations and Asian countries should take advantage of cultural, scientific and religious dialogue in dealing with existing challenges in the world, he said.

On the sideline of the conference, Salehi also replied to the questions posed by reporters on cultural issues.

Iran has a very special meaning in cultural dialogues in Asian continent which should be heeding in dealing with problems and obstacles, he said.

Dialogue will make hatred, enmity and violence in social and cultural arena unproductive, Salehi said.

Iran's minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbas Salehi, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mansour Gholami, Head of Istanbul University Board of Trustees Mustafa Aydin, Chancellor of Tehran University Mahmoud Nili and the Indonesian president's advisor Din Syamsuddin as well as Mohammad Meshkateddin from Dahka Eastern University are the speakers of the conference.

The Asian Cultural Dialogue Conference follows different plans including Eastern Asia, Indian Subcontinent and Central Asian and Caucasus commissions which will be held with the attendance of scholars from 20 Asian countries in three days in University of Tehran, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in northeastern Iran and Mazandaran University in north of the country respectively.
