Iran for cultural dialogue to deal with regional challenges

Tehran, Jan 13, IRNA – Today's world needs cultural dialogue which will be a proper way to settle international and regional problems effectively, an Iranian official said here on Saturday.

'Culture is an essential element for coordination and convergence,' Abouzar Ebrahimi-Torkaman, chairman of Iran's Islamic Culture and Relations Organization said during his opening address to the first Asian Cultural Dialogue Conference.

The conference with participation of cultural figures and scholars from 20 world countries is an indication of the important role the cultural dialogue plays in dealing with the international and regional challenges, he said.

'As an old continent, Asia can turn the variety of cultures into an opportunity for convergence and cooperation among the nations.'

About convention of the Asian Cultural Dialogue confab in Tehran, the official added it is aimed at reaching mutual understanding about considering cultural dialogue as a basis for other relations.

Iran's minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbas Salehi, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mansour Gholami, Head of Istanbul University Board of Trustees Mustafa Aydin, Chancellor of Tehran University Mahmoud Nili and the Indonesian president's advisor Din Syamsuddin as well as Mohammad Meshkateddin from Dahka Eastern University are the speakers of the conference.

The Asian Cultural Dialogue Conference follows different plans including Eastern Asia, Indian Subcontinent and Central Asian and Caucasus commissions which will be held with the attendance of scholars from 20 Asian countries in three days in University of Tehran, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in northeastern Iran and Mazandaran University in north of the country respectively.
