Official: Airbus ready to finance new Iranian planes

Tehran, Dec 17, IRNA – Managing Director of Iran Air, national flag-bearer, Farzaneh Sharafbafi said on Sunday that Airbus is ready to finance Iran's new planes.

On the sidelines of the second International Transport Exhibition in Tehran, Sharafbafi told reporters that representatives of Airbus are in Tehran now to hold negotiation in this concern.

In spite of this, Iran Air is consulting and holding talks with other financers, she added.

Concerning use of 330 million dollars facilities of National Development Fund, Sharafbafi said that part of this amount were paid for down payment to purchase planes and so far three Airbus planes and six ATR planes have entered the country.

She said that Iran Air is flying to 28 international and 76 domestic destinations, adding that all Iranian planes are used for civil and non-military purposes and the recent approval of the US Congress will not influence the contracts.

Sharafbafi stated that more supervision of the US Congress on issuing licenses of the US Treasury Department will make the process longer, but has no effect on cancellation of purchasing authorization from Boeing.

Sharafbaghi said six ATR 72-seat planes are now flying in short route.

Iran has already signed purchasing contracts to buy 100 planes from Airbus, 80 from Boeing and 20 planes from ATR companies and has received 9 planes of them, so far.
