'Fabricated plan' on partition of Iraqi Kurdistan 'history' now: Senior official

Isfahan, Oct 20, IRNA – Supreme Leader's senior advisor for international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati said that the fake plan for partition of Iraqi Kurdistan is now history after liberation of the northern province of Kirkuk from Daesh terrorists in this Arab country.

Talking to reporters on Thursday evening in Isfahan, central Iran, Velayati congratulated the Iraqi government, parliament and prime minister on liberation of Kirkuk from Daesh terrorists.

'The problem of northern region of Iraq has been settled thanks to the Iraqi officials' prudence with the least trouble and without blood shedding,' said Velayati.

Touching upon Iran and Iraq cordial relations, he said that,' the two countries enjoy common history and religion.'

'The Islamic Republic of Iran has always helped its friends and Muslim nations in the region,' he said, adding that Iran would spare no efforts to assist the Islamic governments.

'The US influence in the Middle East is coming to an end; Washington has no room in our region and leveling accusations against Iran avails the US nothing,' said Velayati.

'Iran is considered as the resistance axis in the region; Iranian nation enjoys great national and religious dignity and does not let enemies throw the least insult,' added Velayati.

He also advised the US not to meddle in the Middle East affairs, saying that,' the destiny of regional countries should be shaped by their own people.'

Despite opposition by the Iraqi Federal Government and regional states, as well as international warnings, the KRG referendum was held on Sep 25 in some northern Iraqi provinces, including Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, and some disputed regions like Kirkuk.
