Senior sunni cleric calls Myanmar's anti-Muslims atrocities 'shocking'

Zahedan, Oct 13, IRNA - The senior sunni Iranian cleric Molavi Abdolhamid described the crimes committed against the Rohingya Muslim community in Myanmar as 'shocking and intolerable'.

Speaking in a local gathering in Zahedan in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, the prominent cleric said, 'I have asked the Islamic countries and human rights organizations to spare no efforts to help Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.'

He also urged the Muslim states to collaborate with each other and help stop violece by Myanmar government against Rohingya Muslim community in this southeast Asian country.

Widespread violence against the Muslim community in Myanmar has forced more than 400,000 Rohingya Muslims to flee to the neighboring Bangladesh.

Around 400 Muslims have been killed in the recent wave of violence in Myanmar, with satellite images showing that 214 villages have been totally destroyed.
