Iran ready for US worst scenario on nuclear deal: Official

Tehran, Sep 13, IRNA – Iran is prepared to deal with even the worst US scenario on the future of the nuclear deal, said the head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations.

The worst scenario, pertaining to the future of Iran nuclear deal, could be possible withdrawal of all parties involved from the international agreement, and we are ready for the worst one, Kamal Kharrazi said on Tuesday during a meeting with ex-Australian foreign minister Gareth Evans.

Kharrazi expressed hope for other parties involved in the nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), to stand against US pressures.

Iran prefers to maintain the agreement and we advise the European countries to do so, as it is to their benefit as well, he said.

Kharrazi and Evans, during the meeting also discussed various regional and bilateral issues.

In response to a question by the ex-Australian foreign minister considering recent nuclear tests by North Korea and the possibility for Iran to be encouraged to develop its own arsenal of nuclear weapons, Kharrazi said that, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has forbidden nuclear weapons.

Iran is only trying to acquire peaceful nuclear technology, he said.
