Iran, Azerbaijan expand scientific, technologic cooperation

Tehran, Aug 30, IRNA - Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology for research and technology affairs Vahid Ahmadi in a meeting with Azerbaijan Republic Ambassador to Tehran Bonyad Huseynov on Wednesday considered ways to expand scientific and technologic cooperation.

In the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to cooperate in construction of science and technology parks in Azerbaijan Republic and mutual cooperation in the fields of science and technology.

Ahmadi pointed to historical, cultural and religious backgrounds of the two countries, and said that in Iran there are 4.5 million students, 2400 higher education institutes, 41 science and technology parks and 179 advanced technologies incubator centers.

Ahmadi added that Iran has good cooperation with countries like Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and France in recent years in issues like sabbatical leaves of absence and exchanging instructors and students.

Ambassador Huseynov, for his part, said that bilateral relations have expanded growingly over past four years and presidents of the two countries have met 8 times in this period.

Cooperation and interaction between the two countries in the fields of science and technology are not at a desirable level and there are problems in this concern, which should be settled.

He added that universities have been established in Azerbaijan Republic active in the fields of oil and petrochemical and Iranian universities may have scientific, and research interaction and cooperation with them.

Chancellor of Mohaqeq Ardebili University, vice-chancellor of Tabriz University, heads of science and technology parks of Ardebil, East and West Azarbaijan provinces also expressed their view points in the meeting.

It is due that a joint committee to be established in this concern by related experts to program expansion of scientific interaction.
