DyFM: UN efforts' success in Yemen depends on observing neutrality

Tehran, Aug 12, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari underlined Iran's support for the UN efforts to settle Yemen crisis, and said that success in the UN efforts depends on observing its neutrality as an evident of its responsibility.

Following his meeting with the UN secretary general special envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh here on Saturday, Jaberi Ansari said 'we had good and constructive talks'.

UN is trying to activate current situation in direction of political means and in this direction is paying visit to Iran and is to consult with the Iranian officials, the deputy minister said.

To solve Yemen crisis through political means, the UN envoy has travelled to some other countries in the region.

Since beginning of the crisis, Iran emphasized that the crisis has no military solution and it should be solved through political means and by holding direct talks between conflicting sides and referring to the Yemeni people's views.

He pointed to the importance of ceasefire and ending the conflict and besiege of the region, and said that unfortunately surrounding Yemen caused problems for residing people in the area and intensified different diseases like cholera.

Jaberi Ansari said that UN envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh is also to meet with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

He concluded prompt ending for Yemen crisis means to end a disaster, which is happening in Yemen, and Iran will do its utmost that the UN receives back ruined confidence of Yemeni people and to prepare possibility for the establishment of peace in the region.

UN secretary general special envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh arrived in Tehran to hold talks and consultations with Iranian officials.
