Tajik president congratulates Rouhani on re-election

Tehran, May 20, IRNA – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon congratulated his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani on his re-election as Iran’s new president.

President Rahmon wrote in a message on Saturday that Iran and Tajikistan enjoy excellent ties and beneficial cooperation in different fields in the wake of their cultural and historic commonalities.

He further noted that during President Rouhani’s second term in office, all-out cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan will improve and be boosted in line with their interests through both sides’ sincere efforts.

President Rahmon also pointed out that his country is ready to work for mutual confidence, good neighboring policy and amity with Iran.

In his message, the Tajik president also wished his Iranian counterpart and the Iranian nation good health, further success and prosperity.

The incumbent Iranian president won a landslide victory in presidential election obtaining over 23 million votes (57% of total votes) and became the country’s president for the next four years.

Other candidates vying in the presidential race were former deputy judiciary chief Ebrahim Raeisi; member of Iran's Expediency Council Mostafa Mirsalim; and former vice president Mostafa Hashemi Taba.

Raeisi received 15,786,449 of the counted ballots while Mirsalim and Hashemi Tab won 478,215 and 215,450 votes respectively.
