“I send my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating the festival of Nowruz in Britain, Iran and around the world,” she said in her message.
She added, “To everyone celebrating Nowruz in the UK – I wish you a happy, healthy and peaceful new year.”
The British prime minister concluded her message with congratulating in Persian language: “Har ruzetan Nowruz, Nowruzetan piruz.”
Norouz, as it is spelled in Persian, literary means the New Day and marks the beginning of the Iranian New Year as well as the spring according to the ancient Iranian solar calendar.
Millions of people in Iran and other countries across the globe celebrate Norouz each year on March 20.
It is celebrated by more than 300 million people worldwide on the day of the spring Equinox, which marks the sun’s crossing of the Equator and the start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.
