Tehran, Feb 13, IRNA - Iranian presidential aide and the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi has said that the 1979 Islamic Revolution in the country opened the road toward independence and freedom for the deprived and oppressed people of the world.

He made the remarks in a recent exclusive interview with the Lebanon’s news website, Al Ahed.

The full text of Al-Ahed’s report on Salehi’s interview follows:

Salehi opined that the best and most effective weapon to counter intellectual and moral Western meddling and confront the Takfiri tide across the Islamic world is by adhering to the standards and basic principles spearheaded by Imam Khomeini, which led to success and victory. According to the Iranian official, these are now sheltered in the shadow of the fortified leadership of the Leader of the Revolution Ayatollah Imam Sayed Ali Khamenei.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is marking the 38th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic revolution in Iran - a revolution that changed the balance of power in the world, serving as an Islamic model that revived hope in the hearts of the sons of the Islamic nation and the oppressed people of the world.

On this occasion, Dr. Salehi congratulated all the oppressed and those calling for justice, especially the sons of the Islamic revival around the world.

'This revolution, as the biggest historical event in recent centuries, has had profound effects.

The victory of the Islamic revival in Iran and the stability of the Islamic Republic's system forever changed the balance of power regionally and globally. Knowing that some thinkers in the West predicted that if the Islamic nation was freed from the shackles of some historical flaws, there would be a renaissance and a great movement,' Salehi said.

In this context he referred to the quote of the famous historian Arnold Toynbee: 'if the Islamic civilization was freed from its shackles, there would be a prominent phenomenon and we will see the emergence of a civilization which will pose a new challenge for us.' He adds that 'It can be said that the great legacy of the Great Prophet's [PBUH] reconnaissance, which has suffered because of various historical reasons and factors including deviation and degradation, was revived by the revivalist of the religion in this era Imam Khomeini. The dust of distortion and backward interpretations have been removed from it.'

According to Salehi 'the most important achievements of the Islamic revolution include the revival of the glory and greatness of Islam and the establishment of a new Islamic civilization that conjures up the authentic Islamic teachings.'

Salehi points out that 'many of the decision makers in the world imagined before the victory of the Islamic Revolution that they can put Islam and the treasures of Islamic culture and civilization on the shelves and impose forces of authoritarian control on the Islamic nation.'

The Iranian official adds that 'the rise of the Islamic Renaissance and presenting a model and an alternative pattern to the standards of Western civilization, imposed the redefining and modernizing of the identity of the Islamic nation on the agenda, as the spirit of the self and self-sufficiency were revived in many Muslim countries.'

Salehi asserts that 'before the victory of the Islamic Revolution politicians in most Islamic countries - in order to protect their interests in the world - thought they should accept the leadership and authority of the major Western capitalist powers or adapt the values and standards of the Eastern camp. But Imam Khomeini - following the path of the prophets and custodians and abiding by the Islamic and Quranic teachings - showed the deprived and oppressed in the world, particularly Muslims, a third way which is based on the values of freedom and independence and stressing religious sentiment.'

Salehi tells Al Ahed that 'today and after almost four decades of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, and adhering the authentic Islamic teachings, the emphasis on human and Islamic values such as independence and freedom, the emphasis on Islamic identity, continued quest for the development of sciences and establish a new Islamist civilization, and the emphasis on Islamic brotherhood and avoiding division, all became the elements and components of puissance for Islamic Republic of Iran.'

Ali Akbar Salehi says that 'the best and most effective weapon to counter intellectual and moral Western meddling and confront the Takfiri tide across the Islamic world is by adhering to the standards and basic principles spearheaded by Imam Khomeini, which led to success and victory and are now sheltered in the shadow of the fortified leadership of the Leader of the Revolution Ayatollah Imam Sayed Ali Khamenei, raising its head high day after day on the path to sustained growth. We feel that on this path we have divine support for the sons of the Islamic revolution. This is a divine record [sunnah] that does not change.'
