In an interview with IRNA after signing the condolence book at the embassy of Iran, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, son of late Benazir Bhutto, former prime minister of Pakistan, said that Ayatollah Hashemi's death is not only a loss for Iran, but also a big loss for Pakistan and for the region.
'I pray Allah Almighty grants him place in paradise.'
He said that Iran and Pakistan ever-friendly ties improved a lot when Ayatollah Rafsanjani was president of Iran and Benazir Bhutto was the prime minister of Pakistan.
“I pray that we can even strengthen those friendly relationships between the people of Iran and people of Pakistan,” he said.
“I have family connections with Iran and we feel this loss greatly,” he said.
He said, 'I had the opportunity of visiting Iran in the past years and l look forward to visiting again.'
Ayatollah Rafsanjani passed away on January 8 at the age of 82 due to a heart attack at a Tehran hospital.
Earlier, Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif expressed deep grief over demise of Ayatollah Rafsanjani and praised him as a symbol of reconciliatory peace efforts at the international level.
