Intl. Union of Railways cooperates well with Iran

Tehran, May 15, IRNA- International Union of Railways (UIC) Secretary General said the Union with having 240 members in the world has close cooperation with Iran in developing railway and intermodal transport in the Middle East.

Speaking in the opening ceremony of the 4th Tehran International Transportation Exhibition and Related Industries, Jean Pierre Loubinoux said that the Middle East is a region with good potentials in railway network.

Loubinoux added that UIC always tries to have close cooperation with members in launching international corridors and increase cargo and passenger transportation in international world rail network.

The 1st International Oil, Rail and Ports Conference was also held at the same time with this event.

He said that holding such a professional conference for the first time in Iran signifies participation of all those active in railway, sea and oil transportation through railway network.

The president of Russian railways Oleg Belozerov said that there are good capacities in developing railway cooperation between Iran and Russia.

He expressed hope that developing cooperation in this sector will result in improving transportation in north corridor.

He said that cargo transport to Iran via Russia increased 25% this year.

Over 350 domestic and 110 foreign firms from Germany, England, Switzerland, France, Italy, Turkey, China, Finland, Bangladesh, Belgium, Czech Republic, Russia, Ukraine, Australia, Poland, Sweden and Bulgaria participated in the 4th Tehran International Transportation Exhibition and Related Industries.

Several companies like Siemens, Alstom, Stadler, Bombardier, Bochumer present their achievements in railway industry.

Tehran International Transportation Exhibition and Related Industries is the biggest international exhibition event in railway industry in the Middle East.

The event is underway on May 15-18 in Tehran International Permanent Fairground.
