Tehran-Berlin joint economic meeting to be held in spring

Tehran, March 10, IRNA – Iran's Ambassador to Berlin Ali Majedi has said that Iran and Germany planned to hold a joint economic commission meeting in Tehran in May.

The meeting will be held for the first time after 14 years.

Ministry of Petroleum has quoted Majedi as announcing the date of the meeting on May 2, 2016.

According to Iran's Embassy in Berlin, German Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economy Sigmar Gabriel will lead the German delegation during the event.

Representatives of Germany's major corporations will also be present in the Tehran-Berlin economic meeting, Majedi said.

Iran's Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance is to host the gathering, he added.

The last joint economic commission meeting between Iran and Germany was held in 2001.

Germany was Iran's major trade partner before the latter was sanctioned by big powers for its peaceful nuclear program.

However, after sanctions were lifted in January following the landmark nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers, Germany was the first European country that headed for Iran.
