New Iranian cigarette to enter market next year

Tehran, March 6, IRNA – Managing Director of Iran Tobacco Company said new cigarettes in compliance with global standards will be produced and supplied to the market next year (to start on March 21).

Mohammad Hossein Barkhordar further remarked that the new cigarettes will be presented to the market in proper packaging upon the market demand and complying with world standards regarding the amount of tar and nicotine and compatible with the taste of consumers.
According to the official, Iran’s Tobacco Company by inviting major international companies and other countries advanced in the production of filter has taken effective steps for reducing harms of cigarettes and towards standardization of its new product.
He said the objective behind production of the new product is paying attention to the safety of consumers, meeting market demand, reducing cigarette import, campaign against smuggled and low quality tobacco products and attention to the taste of consumers.
Annually 67 billion cigarettes are consumed in Iran of which 16 billion are imported officially and 24 billion smuggled into the country and the remaining are produced by domestic units.
