Plan to improve species of cultured fish among priorities of 6th Development Plan

Ahvaz, Khuzestan, March 2, IRNA – Head of the Research Institute for Fishery Sciences said improvement of the species of cultured fish and species resistant to diseases are among priorities of the 6TH Development Plan.

Mohammad Pourkazemi further remarked that fish culture in cage is among other strategies of the institute in the 6th Plan with resistant economy approach and added that meanwhile experience of other countries is being used.
He put the fish culture in the country at 370 thousand tons per year which he said has created jobs for 208 thousand people as well as $300 million export.
Referring to the warming up of the water between one and seven degrees in the next decades which would affect the aquatics he said confronting such a challenge demanded planning.
A three-day national regional aquatics culture conference was opened here on Tuesday in the presence of guests from Iraq, Kuwait and Oman. Meanwhile, 180 articles from inside and outside the country have found their way to the conference.
