Indian Expert: Int'l ccoalition necessary to deal with Daesh

New Delhi, Nov. IRNA - A senior fellow of New Delhi-based Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses has said that the time has reached when the countries should set aside their differences and unite themselves to fight with the demons of Daesh as the international coalition is a must for dealing with the terror group.

In an interview with IRNA, Ashok Behuria said that the Daesh (ISIS) was not only a threat for certain West Asian countries or a particular region but now it has started threating the whole world. The terror attacks of ISIS in Lebanon, France and elsewhere in the world have revealed the inhuman face of this terror group.

Referring to the downing of a Russian fighter aircraft by Turkey, he said that the situation in West Asia has become more complicated and dangerous following the incident.

Urging for reducing the tension between Russia and Turkey, he said that any new conflict in the region could cause its spread in other areas, too.

He further said that NATO’s decision to distance itself from Turkey regarding the targeting of Russian aircraft was meant for reducing tension, but the US has clearly come in support of Ankara as a statement from Washington said that Turkey has right to protect its airspace.

Referring to Turkey’s support to Syrian opposition rebels, Ashok Behuria said that Russian attacks against ISIS and other opposition groups in Syria has caused in reducing Turkish influence and that is the main concern of Ankara.

Turkey has been buying oil from ISIS and wanted to further strengthen the terror group’s control over the area for its own benefit, he added.

He said that France has changed its position after it understood the danger of ISIS and joined hands with Russia to fight against terrorism.

Referring to the US experience in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Indian expert said that Washington is repeating the same mistakes in Syria. He said that the US should change its policy of force regime change as it has severely failed in the past.

Stating that the US should learn a lesson from the situation in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, Ashok Behuria said that Washington should accept the fact that any government change by force and use of extremist and terrorist groups in Syria will not be in the interests of anyone.
