Supreme Leader: US pursuing goals in Syria, shifted tactics

Tehran, Nov 23, IRNA – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Monday that the US is pursuing its abortive goals in Syria through politics and negotiations.

The Supreme Leader made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The US long-term scheme in the region will be very harmful for all nations as well as countries in the region, said the Supreme Leader.
Welcoming expansion of relations and cooperation between Iran and Russia on mutual, regional and international issues, the Supreme Leader praised the effective presence of Moscow to help resolve the regional conflicts.
The US long-term plan in the region is very harmful for all nations and countries mainly the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia and the two sides should exercise vigilance to thwart the conspiracy, the Supreme Leader said.
Iran has no trust in US, said the Supreme Leader adding that economic relations between Iran and Russia would be promoted more than before.
The Supreme Leader praised the Russian president as a very outstanding personality in the contemporary world and appreciated his efforts to help resolve Iran nuclear dispute.
'The case on its final stages but we have no trust in the US Administration and vigilantly observe the treatment of US administration,' underlined the Supreme Leader.
Current level of cooperation with the Russian Federaton mainly on economic issues could be further bolstered, said the Supreme Leader.
'The Americans try to isolate their rivals but you have thwarted this policy,' Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The measures of Moscow in dealing with Syria has brought more credits both for Russian and President Putin in the region and the globe, the Supreme Leader said.
The the US administration is seeking to dominate Syria and then extend scope of domination over the region which should be regarded as a serious threat for all nations and countries mainly Russia and Iran, the Supreme Leader said.
The US administration and its puppets are willing to reach their goals in Syria they failed to obtain through militarism through politics and the negotiating table which requires vigilance of all sides to prevent such plot, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Syrian president has assumed the post through democratic election and the US has no right to ignore the votes of the Syrian people and choice, underlined the Supreme Leader.
The issue of Syria should be resolved through acknowledgement and consent of Syrian people and government, the Supreme Leader said.
Iran and US only held talks on nuclear issue and there is no room for mutual talks on other issues, underlined the Supreme Leader.
Cooperation with the countries which have lost fame for backing terrorists indicates that the US is too far away from noble diplomacy, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Due to such reasons, Iran under no circumstances will hold talks with US on Syria or any other issues and this will never happen for ever, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
'If the crimes and atrocities of terrorists groups will not be suppressed, its domination will engulf central Asia and other parts as well,' said the Supreme Leader.
The Russian president, for his part, expressed pleasure with to listening to invaluable views of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic revolution.
Expansion of cooperation in various fields such as technology, aerospace and advanced technologies have been accelerated and Moscow is satisfied to broaden cooperation to help restore security and resolve regional and global disputes, President Putin said.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is an independent and powerful country with a very promising future; he said adding that Moscow regards Iran as a confident and reliable partner in the region and the world.
'We are determined not to stab our partners in the back and never take action against them behind the scene and will try to resolve our differences through dialogue,' Putin said.
The stand adopted by Iran and Russia on Syria is very close, he said adding that Moscow believes that Syrian crisis should be resolved through democratic means and votes of people should be the only criterion to this end as no one is allowed to impose its will on others and make decisions on their behalf.
'As you mentioned, the US is willing to attain the failed policy of waging war at the negotiating table and we are very watchful,' Putin said.
Those who claim to be advocate of democracy in the world can not oppose to elections in Syria, Putin underlined.
At the end of the meeting, Russian President Vladimir Putin presented oldest manuscript of Holy Qoran kept in Russia as souvenir to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
