Mina tragedy needs impartial probe

Kuala Lumpur, Sept 28, IRNA – President of International Movement for a Just World called Monday for full neutral investigation into the Mina tragic incident.

Chandra Muzaffar made the remark talking to IRNA. With formation of an international body, the global civil society group can collect the facts and analyze them to find the truth, said he. An independent investigation far from the impacts of foreign powers can put an end to such tragic events, he added. Referring to repetition of such a tragedy in 1999, he said Saudi Arabia has announced that the pilgrims are responsible for the Hajj events because they do not follow the related advice, said he. These claims cannot be supported, he further added. Officials in the Islamic countries including Iran stressed that Saudi Arabia has to accept heavy responsibility for the Mina event, said he. Saudi Arabia is responsible to provide security for the pilgrims during Hajj rituals, added he. Due to the stampede in Mina during the Hajj rituals on Thursday, more than 2,000 Muslim pilgrims including 169 Iranians were killed and over 2,000 wounded, including 46 Iranians. According to reports, 298 Iranian pilgrims have been listed missing. The pilgrims were on way to jamarāt to perform Hajj rituals there. The Stoning of the Devil is part of the annual Islamic Hajj pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca. Muslim pilgrims fling pebbles at three walls called jamarāt, in the city of Mina just east of Mecca. It is one of a series of ritual acts that must be performed during the Hajj pilgrimage. 1483**1771
