Yemen truce talks remain inconclusive: UN

Geneva, June 19, IRNA - UN Special Envoy on Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed no agreement was reached on a cease-fire during five days of talks in Geneva but efforts will continue in coming days.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, he said while preliminary negotiations were inconclusive, holding the talks was a major achievement in itself.

The Mauritanian enovy of UN secretary general who was conducting indirect brokering among warring factions in the Swiss city also said that all parties were positive about the UNSC Resolution 2216.

According to Cheikh Ahmed, the ground is prepared for announcing a ceasefire to end the Saudi-led military aggression against its impoverished southern neighboring country.

Saying that he will report to the UNSC about the Geneva talks, the envoy expressed optimism over reaching an agreement on a cease-fire in the near future.

He referred to the positive approach of Houthis in the talks and said there would be a humanitarian cease-fire prior to the upcoming round of negotiations.
