Anti-ISIL intl. cartoon exhibitions open in Tehran

Tehran, May 24, IRNA – Anti-ISIL exhibitions displaying submissions to the DAESH International Cartoon and Caricature Contest opened at several of Tehran’s cultural centers on Sunday.

Bahman, Arasbaran, Aftab and Osveh cultural centers are displaying the selected works, the executive secretary of the contest, Mohammad Habibi, said in a press conference on Sunday.
The contest centering on the crimes committed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Syria and Iraq has been organized by Iran’s House of Cartoon.
A total of 280 works selected from 800 submissions coming from over 40 countries including Brazil, Australia, Malaysia and Indonesia have been put on display in the exhibit, Habibi said.
DAESH is the Persian word for the ISIL.
Habibi also added that many worldwide professional networks of cartoonists are among the participants in the contest such as Cartoon Network Brazil.
He also said that some of the foreign cartoonists are attending the contest using nicknames for security reasons, Tehran Times reported.
A jury composed of members Maziar Bijan, Mohammad-Hossein Nirumand and Habibi has selected the works for the show.
Winners are scheduled to be announced during a ceremony to be held at Tehran’s Arasbaran Cultural Center on May 31.
