Iraq judiciary chief: Iran's role in warding off terrorism threat against Iraq undeniable

Baghdad, Nov 25, IRNA – Iraq Judiciary Chief Medhat Mahmoud said Tuesday that nobody can deny Iran's role in warding off terrorism threats faced by Iraq.

In a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Hassan Qashqavi, he appreciated Iran's supports for Iraq's fight against terrorism, hoping that bilateral ties would further improve.

Mahmoud also called for regular diplomatic shuttles, noting that neglecting consolidation of bilateral ties will encourage others to create discord between the two countries.

Describing Iraqi regulations regarding illegal visits as very strict, he said that illegal visitors will be liable to a punishment of 10 years in prison.

'We are also compiling a new bill to adopt a lenient approach towards the pilgrims entering the county through illegal channels,' the Iraqi official said.

Qashqavi, for his part, called on Iraqi judiciary chief to behave more softly towards the Iranian pilgrims in Iraq.
