Official urges change in water consumption pattern

Tehran, Sept 21, IRNA - Managing Director of Iran Water and Wastewater Engineering Company Hamidreza Janbaz said on Saturday that a large part of the country is suffering from rainfall and water shortage.

Speaking in a televised program Janbaz said assessments made on water reserves and public consumption in cities and villages show that 517 cities in the country are in critical condition in terms of water supply.

The official further remarked that special attention has been paid to 12 big cities, adding that the two cities of Kerman and Isfahan are in a condition worse than Tehran.

He stressed: “If we experience shortage of rainfall in autumn and if people do not change their consumption pattern we will be faced with problems in Tehran, especially in eastern parts.”

He pointed to Mamloo Dam in southeast of Tehran which is expected to inject 2.5 cubic meters per second of desalinated water to Tehran water network and said installation of the desalination plant has been almost finished and water supply tp some areas in eastern Tehran is expected soon.
